IMPORTANT NOTICE – this year’s festival is cancelled. We will open again in 2021 for the final Leigh Music & Drama Festival
The object of the Festival shall be to advance the education of the public in the Art, and in particular the Arts of Music, Singing and Drama, by the promoting of annual competitions.
FESTIVAL DATES AND VENUES FOR 2019. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS AN EXCITING CHANGE TO OUR FESTIVAL THIS YEAR . IN ORDER TO MAKE THE FESTIVAL MORE INNOVATIVE, WE HAVE COMBINED THE DISCIPLINES COMPRISING WIND AND BRASS, PIANO AND STRINGS IN ORDER TO PRODUCE A COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUMENTAL SYLLABUS.
INSTRUMENTAL 14th June – 17th June at Highlands Methodist Church. DRAMA and SINGING 21st June – 23rd June at Leigh Road Baptist Church.
EDNA HEAD competition is on Sunday 17th June, at 7.15pm and is at Highlands Methodist Church. We welcome an audience to listen to these very talented young musicians.
FESTIVAL FINALE CONCERT (this is a fund-raising event) is on 1st July, 2019 at Highlands Methodist Church at 2.30pm.
The Edna Head competition is Class 900. This competition is designed for players of piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, double bass, woodwind and brass instruments, who will be 16 years or under on 1st June, 2019. Entrants will be expected to demonstrate their skill by playing a programme of their choice, to be between 12 and 15 minutes in length, showing technical and musical ability as well as enthusiasm for music.
The Rotary Young Singer competition (class 251) sponsored by the Rotary Club of Leigh-on-Sea, is open to amateur singers up to the age of 17 years (on 31st August, 2019) but only those living in Southend-on-Sea, Rayleigh, Castle Point and Rochford meet the criteria to be put forward to the progressive Rotary competition (District finals, Regional finals then National finals). This competition aims to offer young people an experience of performing on a public stage, an opportunity to showcase their singing voice and impartial feedback and assessment of performance by an experienced adjudicator.
